Mission Statement:
Our mission under the guidance of Jesus Christ is to offer a healthy living environment and education to homeless children through the acquisition and construction of faith based living centres.
The Purpose
To reach, help and uplift the neediest orphaned girl children in India with the love of God and help them grow as complete beings with dignity and as valuable citizens in the society.
The service of Rose of Sharon is rooted on this foundation: “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world”. James 1:27
The Beginning
Rose of Sharon had its humble beginning in 2002 when Rev. M.P. Prasanna Kumar and his wife M. Dorothy, heard about three small girls who became motherless through a tragic incident inside their small house. The desperate story of these three little sisters challenged them to reach out and save them. They graciously gave up their home in order to provide a place for these precious girls. Hardly a week goes by that they aren’t asked if they can take another girl. They realized, among children, girls were the worst affected when they do not have a family to care for.
Steve Dean met Rev. Prasanna Kumar in March 2011. He later travelled to visit India and see the condition of the poor and the girls being taken care of at Rose of Sharon. Steve’s heart was moved by the stories Prasanna and his wife Dorothy shared about the girls at their home. Along with his wife Ellen, Steve is getting involved in stretching the Homes of Hope to save and serve many more of the less privileged and abandoned girls in India. Steve and Ellen have been involved financially in world mission most of their lives together but now feel that God wants them to take a more active role in the construction of these living centers.
